In 2024 Kurant launches: Tourist Bureau for Artistic Agency. The project uses artistic methods to discuss tourism in general, and the development of tourism in Tromsø in particular. The gap between the traveller and the resident has widened to such an extent, that the two entities inhabit parallel versions of the same locale. Is it possible to think of destination development in a way that benefits both locals and visitors? Is this something we as exhibition spaces can contribute to?
In the project's first phase, Kurant has involved Rurik Sjösten as a resident artist. During his stay, Rurik aims to take on the role of the agency's adventure guide. Wearing his tailor-made guide uniform, Rurik takes the audience on guided tours a bit out of the ordinary. He has developed a measuring instrument that can measure the "objective value of authenticity". Which attractions in Tromsø can actually be considered authentic/genuine? Are the fixed tourist magnets in harmony with their innermost essence?
Bio:
Rurik Sjösten is a local spokesperson for the Interdimensional Aesthetigmagnetic Signal System (IASS) and works with the dissemination of the organization's technological and spiritual visions. After many years of experience in the art industry and service sector, Sjösten is now ready to enter the tourism industry and offer a new alternative to traditional tourism. With the help of technology from IASS, we can now map the entire cityscape and region to create an objectively ultimate experience for both the tourist and the Tromsø resident.
